COVID-19 Equipment Loan
UIC has made available a limited quantity of University-owned laptops and cellular hotspots for temporary loan to students who do not have reliable access to a computer and/or internet at their home.
If you are a current UIC student enrolled in the Fall 2021 semester, and have need of a laptop or cellular hotspot, please read the Requirements sections in this page before submitting a request. Once your status has been verified, and as long as the inventory of devices remains available, on-campus pickup will be coordinated. Acceptance of a UIC laptop or cellular hotspot constitutes acceptance of the university-owned equipment loan/rental policy.
NOTE: Requests for equipment loans are being accepted, but please be aware delivery may be delayed as supplies have been recently exhausted and the university is currently expecting additional devices to become available soon.

Returning the Equipment
- Once you graduate or if you stop being a UIC student, you are required to return the equipment to the university.
- You are responsible for returning the laptop/hotspot when requested, and in the same condition that it was received.
- You must also make sure to keep the original packaging for returns.
- The expectations for the return of the laptop/hotspot, including time frame and location, will be communicated at a later time.
Equipment Lost or Stolen
If the laptop or hotspot is lost or stolen, it is your responsibility to report the loss or theft immediately to the UIC Police at (312) 996-2830 and provide Technology Solutions with the case number.
International Students in Home Country
Due to cost prohibitive international shipping costs and additional fees involved, we are unable to ship you a laptop and/or a hotspot outside of the continental United States. However, other student financial support programs** may be available to you through the Office of the Dean of Students and the Financial Aid Office.
For students in the continental United States there is no cost for this service.
However, UIC reserves the right to charge fines, suspend access to IT resources (including computer labs, UIC wireless network, etc), and/or prevent class registration and access to transcripts if the laptop/hotspot is not returned or is returned late, or is damaged, lost, or stolen through negligence.
