Wondering how to design assessments that are aligned with your goals for student learning, support students in their learning process, and give students different ways and opportunities to demonstrate what they have learned? In this interactive workshop, participants will identify strategies to enhance the equity, effectiveness, and transparency in the design of their assessments, examine grading and feedback strategies that foster a growth mindset and increase student motivation, and consider grading policies that are flexible around the complexity of students’ lives in their course. Participants will consider these strategies in their unique course contexts (e.g., large vs. small classes) and their time constraints and resources.
After participating in this workshop you will be able to:
- Explain the benefits of designing and implementing transparent and equitable assessments and grading policies in a course
- Identify strategies to create equitable and effective assessments
- Reflect on grading strategies and policies that can help to lower barriers for students and increase student motivation
