Many instructors want to better support neurodivergent students but are unsure where to begin. In this interactive workshop, participants will explore neurodiversity through a strengths-based lens and consider how common features of our courses and learning environments can either support or hinder student success. Together, we will identify hidden barriers to learning and discuss practical strategies that increase transparency, access, and engagement. Participants will reflect on their own teaching practices and leave with an action plan for creating more inclusive learning experiences that support student success.
After participating in this workshop, you will be able to:
- Explain key concepts and terminology related to neurodiversity and describe how neurodiversity may shape students' experiences in the classroom
- Evaluate aspects of your teaching and course design for potential barriers to access, engagement, and learning.
- Develop an action plan to implement inclusive teaching strategies that reduce access friction and create more opportunities for all students to succeed
