Overview

Wondering why students don’t show up to your large lecture classes? Tired of blank stares from those who do attend? A lack of student engagement can be disheartening, but teaching a large class doesn’t have to mean teaching into the void. In this interactive workshop, you will explore practical, evidence-based approaches to foster meaningful engagement even in classes with hundreds of students. Participants will share ideas and learn new strategies for making their large courses more interactive and energizing for students and instructors alike.

After participating in this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Describe common barriers to student engagement and attendance in large in-person classes.
  • Identify evidence-based strategies and active learning techniques to increase interaction and participation in large-course settings.

EVENT FORMAT: This workshop will be online on Zoom.

EVENT LEAD: Crystal Tse, tsecryst@uic.edu
