Overview

Does drafting or revising a teaching statement have you wondering where to start or what to even write about? Maybe you’re wondering how to make it stand out and not sound like it was written by AI?

Whether you are looking to generate a teaching statement draft or revise a current one, this workshop will help you identify key themes and concrete examples you can use to create a teaching statement that is unique to you and stands out on the academic job market.

In this workshop, participants will learn about the characteristics of successful teaching statements and engage in the Generative Knowledge Interview process, which uses key moments as learners and teachers to help frame the value of teaching in their teaching statements.

This is an interactive workshop. Writing and discussing with peers is expected of all participants.

Participants will leave the workshop with a deeper understanding of the conventions of strong teaching statements and generated content for a teaching statement draft or revision.

The workshop is open to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from all departments and disciplines, at all stages of drafting their teaching statements.

Please complete the pre-work assignments prior to the start of the workshop. You will receive the pre-work assignment with your registration confirmation email.

Because there is pre-work assigned for this workshop, registration will close 30 minutes before the start of the workshop.
