Join our AI Tinkering and Teaching Sessions

AI is changing how students learn and how instructors teach, and faculty are uniquely positioned to guide students through this evolving AI landscape.

A UIC professor learns about AI

This spring, CATE invites all UIC instructors to our AI Tinkering and Teaching sessions. These participant-driven, hands-on sessions are open to any instructor who wants to understand AI capabilities, consider how students may be using these tools, and develop strategies that directly support student learning. Join the conversation, bring your questions and concerns, share what you have tried, and collaborate on solutions for your course.

Why attend:

These sessions will provide you with dedicated time to:

  • Explore free and UIC-supported generative AI tools.
  • Talk with colleagues about generative AI in your courses.
  • Develop strategies and materials that directly apply to your courses.

Format:

Each session will begin with optional teaching-related design prompts and inspiration, followed by time to explore and collaborate. You might try a new idea, ask questions, or check out what others are working on. We will conclude by sharing ideas, barriers, or other takeaways. Be sure to bring your laptop and any relevant course materials (e.g., syllabus or assignment overview).

Participant Outcomes:

  1. Build confidence to use generative AI tools equitably and ethically.
  2. Collaborate with peers to share ideas, tools, prototypes, and feedback.
  3. Discuss when to prioritize human-centric interaction and when to leverage generative AI to enhance student learning and engagement.
