This spring we’re launching a Large Courses Community of Practice, because teaching large-enrollment courses presents unique challenges — and opportunities. This informal, discussion-based group will bring together instructors who regularly teach large courses to share teaching strategies, reflect on common struggles, celebrate successes, and learn from one another. Whether you’re a seasoned large-course instructor or newly navigating this course format, you’ll find support, practical ideas, and a space to talk candidly with colleagues who understand the complexities of teaching at scale. Monthly meeting topics will be participant-driven and facilitated by CATE staff.
Participant Outcomes
- Build a collaborative community of instructors who teach large-enrollment courses across disciplines
- Identify and share effective strategies for managing and engaging large classes.

Inclusion and Accessibility Information
CATE is committed to making events as accessible as possible. CATE’s in-person events typically involve a combination of presentation and discussion-based activities. We welcome ASL interpreters, note-takers, and accompanying assistants to all CATE events. The TEB is wheelchair accessible with an elevator to the second floor space. The TEB space is equipped with fixed-height tables that are moveable and can be reconfigured. There are single-occupancy, all-gender, accessible bathrooms on the second and basement levels of TEB.
If you have any accessibility questions, requests, or to coordinate accommodations, please contact the CATE team at teaching@uic.edu and/or make the requests below.
