Message from the Director of CATE
Building Our Teaching Community
text
Fall can be a busy time, as we begin preparing our courses, reviewing syllabi, refreshing assignments, and thinking about the students who will soon fill our classrooms. But it can also be one of the most joyful and energizing times of the year, as colleagues across campus come together with a shared commitment to student learning. Our teaching community spans every college and discipline, united by a common goal: creating meaningful learning experiences for UIC students.
At CATE, we believe teaching is strengthened when instructors have opportunities to learn with, and from one another, which is why we are excited to introduce new opportunities to build community this fall. New offerings include the New Faculty Teaching Network and Co-working with CATE, alongside long-standing programs that have connected instructors around shared questions and goals for years. From Week Zero workshops to the Inclusive Education Scholars Certificate Program, the Action Research Scholars program, and our Peer Observation Protocol Development initiative, each opportunity is designed not only to support your teaching, but also to connect you with colleagues who are exploring new ideas, addressing similar challenges, and learning together.
As you explore this year’s Fall newsletter, I hope you’ll find an opportunity to join one of our teaching and learning communities. Whether you’re looking for practical ideas, thoughtful conversations, or new professional connections, we look forward to learning with you.
Best,
Lori Mumpower
