The Cinematographer/Creative Video Producer (Video Production Specialist) is a member of the UIC creative team working with video editors, graphic designers, instructional designers, communications, and marketing staff. This position is responsible for the creation of video and other multimedia assets needed for courses, special projects, and other departmental needs. This position will have the opportunity to showcase their creative expertise and strong technical skills to produce engaging videos that help university instructors convey ideas to support student learning.

The Cinematographer/Creative Video Producer (Video Production Specialist) will engage creatively with instructors, answering their questions, regarding multimedia best practices and the integration of video and other media assets into online courses through streaming media tools, such as Panopto and Echo360, and the university Learning Management System (LMS), Blackboard Learn.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance and support to faculty in the creation of multimedia assets (audio/video/graphic/animation) for courses of various modalities, including hybrid, blended, and fully online.
  • Assist the CATE creative and marketing team in projects as assigned including video, on-location event support, closed captioning, graphic design, web updates, and creation of digital assets.
  • Assist in the daily operations of the Multimedia Lab including but not limited to: Processing equipment checkouts/returns; Provide training to students, faculty, and staff on the use of the multimedia equipment and installed multimedia software; Assist faculty with media conversions; Facilitate recordings in the Lightboard Studio; Document processes and maintain a Best Practices resource for Lab operations.
  • Provide assistance with the Multimedia Lab consultations including supervision and mentoring of the Multimedia Lab TA’s and Undergraduate staff.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in film/video production, cinematography, radio and television, documentary film production, photojournalism, communications, graphic design, or a closely related field to the position.
  2. One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in areas including non-linear video editing, motion graphics, video lighting and composition, camera operation, graphics design, audio recording, video production, or a closely related professional area.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge in the use of multimedia software including Camtasia Studio, Panopto (or equivalent streaming software), and Adobe Premiere Pro.

NOTE: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Adobe After Effects, Media Encoder, Photoshop, and Audition; motion graphics and animation; digital media including codecs, resolutions, frame rates and the latest digital workflows.
  • Working knowledge of basic color-correction, sound design, and mixing.
  • Knowledge of closed captioning and accessibility standards.
  • Familiarity with studio processes and workflows, including lightboard recording and green-screen based production.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and the latest trends and best practices for multimedia applications.
  • Skills in verbal and written communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with emphasis on embracing diversity.
  • Skill in time management, organizing work assignments, and responding quickly and effectively to challenges.
  • Patience and a sense of humor.
  • Strong storytelling skills.
  • Ability to produce and create exciting audio-visual content.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a team-oriented and fast paced environment.
  • Ability to achieve thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing tasks (attention to detail).
