Read

In this book discussion, we will explore The Opposite of Cheating: Teaching for Integrity in the Age of AI by Tricia Bertram Gallant and David A. Rettinger. This timely and highly-regarded book offers strategies that protect academic integrity while maximizing opportunities for learning. Whether you are curious about discouraging AI use in your courses or hope to inspire greater AI fluency skills among students, The Opposite of Cheating will provide a robust framework for discussing and applying these ideas to your own teaching.

Connect

This book discussion will allow participants to collaborate asynchronously with colleagues as they explore this text. Participants will experience firsthand how social annotation tools, like Perusall, can foster collaborative learning and active reading, giving you the skills you need to implement Perusall in your online or on-campus courses.

What To Expect

  • Timeline: Asynchronous discussion will begin Monday, September 8 (Week 3) and culminate with an optional in-person session in TEB on October 29 at 3 PM.
  • Weekly asynchronous engagement: Participants will read the book using Perusall’s platform, asking questions and adding insights along the way.
  • Live discussion: This optional debrief session will be facilitated by Patrick Horton, CATE’s Associate Director for Instructional Innovation, and will provide a face-to-face forum for participants to connect.
