Learning through diversity, learning communities and teaching as research are the tenets of CIRTL

CIRTL at UIC is a partnership between The Graduate College and the Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence (CATE). UIC is a member of The Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) Network, which seeks to enhance excellence in undergraduate education by providing teaching and professional development for graduate students and postdocs that prepares them to implement and advance effective teaching practices for diverse student audiences.

Foundations of College Instruction

Earn CIRTL certification credit by taking courses that are part of the UIC Graduate College’s campus certificate in the Foundations of College Instruction (FOCI).

CIRTLE

CIRTL Network Online Programming

The national CIRTL Network offers a variety of online events to which all UIC graduate students, postdocs, and instructors are welcome to participate. These events are led by expert faculty and staff from CIRTL institutions across the network.

Teaching Tidbits

Join CATE facilitators for online and in-person interactive workshops. These span a number of topics such as inclusive teaching, assessment, active learning and student engagement, teaching with technology, and curriculum design.

CIRTLE certification

CIRTL at UIC awards three successive levels of nationally-recognized certifications to endorse and highlight your accomplishments and commitment to implementing effective teaching practices for diverse learners. These certifications are open to UIC graduate students and postdocs of all disciplines and are an excellent credential to include in your curriculum vita or resumé.
