INSTRUCTIONAL INNOVATION

Inclusive teaching begins by recognizing the diversity our students bring to the table.

Gender Terminology consists of: sex assigned at birth (what the medical community labels you); gender attribution (how your gender is perceived by others); gender identity (how you identity/see yourself); gender expression (how you display your gender)

CATE is excited to introduce two new Inclusive Teaching Guides for instructors: Pronoun Usage, and Navigating Social Identity in the Classroom!

Inclusive teaching begins by recognizing the diversity our students bring to the classroom. That includes gender diversity. With our new Teaching Guide on Pronoun Usage, instructors get the what, why, and how of pronouns and gender diversity in our courses.

The Teaching Guide on Navigating Social Identity in the Classroom helps instructors think through the connection between social systems and social identities, which places all of us at different intersections of dominant and non-dominant groups. It also opens the door to inclusive teaching strategies that we explore across our programming: student and instructor mindsets, critical reflection, tone and communication, inclusive course design, relevant curriculum, harm prevention and repair and more.
