About

Nicole Messier is the Senior Instructional Designer at CATE. Prior to joining UIC, she was an instructional designer at Rasmussen University. Nicole has over twenty years of teaching, training, and design experience. Nicole brings her passion for curriculum development and education reform to every course, project, and training she develops, particularly regarding creating equitable opportunities for all students.

Nicole has a Master of Arts Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Saint Xavier University, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and Public Policy from Ashford University, and a Certification for the Fundamentals of Online Teaching from University of Wisconsin-Madison.

 

Instructional design interests and specialization: Understanding by Design (backward design), authentic assessments, project-based learning, formative assessments, summative assessments, rubrics, online and blended learning, accessibility standards, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

Educational technology interests and expertise: social learning technology (Padlet, Nearpod, Flipgrid, Trello, ASANA), active learning technology (Kahoot, Easy Retro, and Mentimeter), multimedia creation software (Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, and Camtasia).

Subject area expertise: curriculum and instruction, assessment, early childhood education, and elementary education.
