Overview

Graduate school can be overwhelming; there are new roles and responsibilities to learn and new people to meet and work with. By knowing how to build and join a community, TAs can embrace other forms of support and collaboration that nurture their professional development and facilitate cultural and social integration. Workshop participants will reflect on their expectations and learn how to navigate integration mechanisms through community building. We will explore how, as graduate TAs, you can improve your experience with students, peers, and faculty.

EVENT FORMAT: This workshop is an on-campus, in-person event.

EVENT FACILITATOR: Yasmine Haiti, PhD Candidate, Political Science, yhaiti2@uic.edu

Inclusivity & Accessibility Information: CATE is committed to making events as accessible as possible. In-person events typically involve a combination of presentation and discussion-based activities. We welcome ASL interpreters, note-takers, and accompanying assistants to in-person CATE events. The TEB is wheelchair accessible with an elevator to the second floor space. The TEB space is equipped with fixed-height tables that are moveable and can be reconfigured. There are single-occupancy, all-gender, accessible bathrooms on the second and basement levels of TEB. Please contact teaching@uic.edu with access requests or questions.
