Overview

Much of our learning happens through social interactions. Foster collaboration in your classroom by designing and facilitating group work that is structured, equitable, and engaging. Group work can help build communication skills, encourages accountability, and promotes deeper learning as students are tasked with retrieving and explaining information. In this workshop we will discuss why group work is a critical strategy for student learning, explore ways to manage and direct group dynamics, and develop ways to promote students participating and working together with their peers.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Reflect on experiences with group work in their own learning and teaching.
  • Implement strategies for effectively structuring and facilitating group work.
  • Identify various group activities that could be incorporated in their own teaching.

EVENT FORMAT: This workshop will be online on Zoom.

EVENT LEAD: Lauren Woods, lmwoods@uic.edu
