Overview
This Friday December 17th, join a conversation with Cassie Power, Amanda B. Albert, and Denise Leonard about "Teaching for Social Impact".
Teaching and learning the last 18 months has been challenging for many instructors and students. We are still living in the midst of a global pandemic that is particularly devastating in the US and contending with racism and anti-Blackness. The presenters responded to this social moment by collaboratively creating a teaching “schema,” which provides a framework for how faculty can teach in ways that have greater positive social impact in this current moment and beyond. In this session, we will share the teaching schema, Teaching and Learning for Social Impact: Resources for (Re)Designing your Course, and provide opportunities for others to share what they are doing in their own teaching and learning practices to promote equity pedagogy, teach about racial justice, and support students to develop the skills to make positive social change. Participants will also engage in co-creating a shared resource for all participants, capturing important takeaways in collaborative online documents, that will be available to all the groups after the completion of the workshop. Finally, participants will discuss ideas on shaping professional development opportunities in this area to support faculty in their teaching.
Sit down with other engaged colleagues on Zoom. Based on research by the Summer Institutes, supports are three times more important than barriers in implementing Scientific Teaching in classrooms. Join us for support with the National Institute on Scientific Teaching, formerly the Summer Institutes (Bathgate et al., 2019a, 2019b).
