Spring Semester Teaching Courses for Graduate Students

This spring there are several courses being offered through the Graduate College that are designed to support new and experienced graduate student teaching assistants (TAs) and instructors in developing their teaching knowledge and skills.
GC 591: Introduction to College-Level Teaching for Graduate TAs
Offered in partnership with the Graduate College, this 2-credit course provides essential training for new and returning graduate TAs to lead, engage, and support their students with confidence. Grad students will learn student-centered, evidence-based teaching strategies, discuss troubleshooting classroom scenarios, reflect on their teaching practices, and cultivate a supportive community to share their successes.
During spring 2025, this course meets on-campus Tuesdays from 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm. To register, search for CRN: 48011.

Foundations of College Instruction (FOCI) Courses
Foundations of College Instruction is a 3-course campus certificate that can appear on an official transcript offered through the Graduate College, in partnership with the Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence. Through this series of courses, graduate students can gain foundational knowledge in education research that supports effective, equity-minded college teaching, and develop a teaching statement, course syllabus, and teaching portfolio that can be used at UIC and on the job market.
The first course in the series, is being offered this spring:
GC 592: Foundations of College Instruction
