TA Workshops and New Course

TAs perform various teaching-related tasks.

There are exciting opportunities this fall for new and returning graduate teaching assistants (TAs) to develop their teaching knowledge and skills through a TA workshop series and a new course, GC 591: Introduction to College-Level Teaching for Graduate TAs!

TA Workshop Series

August 16 through September 20, experienced UIC TAs and campus partners are offering in-person and online workshops for graduate TAs and instructors. There are twenty-five workshops for TAs to choose from based on your role, interests, and availability. Workshops topics include grading and feedback, using blackboard, leveraging generative AI, cultivating accessibility in the classroom, being an instructor of record, time management and mindfulness strategies, and building community in the classroom and for yourself as a TA!

These workshops are a requirement for the Campus-Wide New Teaching Assistant (TA) Orientation for first-time TAs, but are open to all graduate students and instructors.

GC 591: Introduction to College-Level Teaching for Graduate TAs

This new Graduate College course is designed to support new and experienced graduate TAs in their teaching at UIC. During this course, students will engage in learning student-centered, evidence-based teaching strategies, discuss troubleshooting classroom scenarios, reflect on their teaching practices, and cultivate a supportive community to share teaching successes.
