Check out this new book, The New College Classroom (Harvard University Press), in which authors Cathy N. Davidson and Christina Katopodis describe evidence-based teaching practices that instructors can use to make their classes more active and participatory.
The authors describe activities such as think-pair-share and exit tickets, as well as lesser-known ideas that instructors who’ve already created interactive courses might want to consider implementing. They also talk about what to do when these teaching strategies seem to “fail” — that is, when students aren’t engaged as expected and the class activities don’t go as planned.
