CIRTL@UIC is offering free online workshops this fall to help UIC graduate students and postdoctoral scholars develop a teaching statement for the academic job market:
Writing Effective Teaching Statements: Getting Started
Tuesday, October 25, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Zoom
Join us for this guided teaching statement development session. Workshop participants will be asked to complete a pre-workshop assignment in preparation for the session.
Writing Effective Teaching Statements: Peer Review
Monday, November 14, 3:00 – 5:00 PM | Zoom
Join us for this guided teaching statement peer feedback session. Workshop participants will be asked to submit a draft of their teaching statement prior to the workshop.

UIC’s Graduate College and the Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence have partnered to establish UIC as a member of The Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL), a national network that provides professional development opportunities for graduate students and postdocs interested in academic careers. CIRTL programming is free to UIC graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, and through completion of CIRTL programming, participants can earn a certification documenting their commitment to developing their pedagogical knowledge and teaching skills.
