About
Dr. Margaret Gonzales is the Associate Director of Educational Development supporting the health sciences colleges at UIC’s Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence (CATE). She is an experienced instructor, educational developer, workshop facilitator, and program coordinator who collaborates with instructors and campus partners in the development of student-centered, inclusive, and innovative teaching strategies and practices.
Prior to joining CATE, Dr. Gonzales was the Assistant Director of the Nexus for Faculty Success at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science where she supported faculty scholarship, grant-writing, and teaching. She previously served as a tenured faculty member in English at Texas Lutheran University, where she also directed the Composition Program and the Student Communication Center. Her scholarly interests include restorative pedagogy, alternative grading, and teaching for transfer. She earned a B.A. in English Literature and her M.A. and Ph.D. in English – Language, Literacy, and Rhetoric from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
In her free time, Margaret enjoys gardening, Pilates, reading, cooking, and hanging out with her dogs, Roger and Bonnie.
