About

Dr. Lori Mumpower is the Executive Director for the Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence. She joined UIC in May 2024, having spent 6 years directing the teaching and learning center at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Dr. Mumpower is the recipient of the 2023 Professional and Organizational Development Network Innovation Award for "Small Teaching, Big Results: Leveraging Department Chairpersons to Improve Teaching and Learning." She was also a part of the educational development team winning the Jack A. Chambers Teaching and Learning Center Award, which recognized the team's embedded model of faculty development. She previously held faculty appointments at Valdosta State University and the University of Alaska Anchorage. Dr. Mumpower's scholarly research centers on educational development, student-centered teaching practices, and faculty mentoring.

Dr. Mumpower earned her B.A. in mathematics and English at Columbia College, her M.A. in Composition, Rhetoric, and Literacy at the University of Oklahoma, and her Ph.D. in Texts and Technology from the University of Central Florida.

When not working, Lori enjoys running and cycling, exploring Chicagoland with her husband Janson and daughter Aurelia, and harassing/petting her cat.
