About

Dr. Crystal Tse is the Associate Director for Faculty Engagement in Action Research at UIC’s Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence (CATE). She is an experienced instructor, teaching developer, and workshop facilitator who works with instructors and campus partners to leverage data and research to foster scholarly and reflective teaching practices.

Prior to joining CATE in May 2021, Dr. Tse worked as an Instructional Developer and Educational Research Associate at the University of Waterloo’s Center for Teaching Excellence, where she supported instructors in their teaching and learning research and inclusive teaching practices. She has also worked at UIC with undergraduate students on student success initiatives improving college transition. She is interested in applying psychological theories to enhance teaching and support student success, and conducts research on fostering identity-safe environments and supporting students from groups historically underrepresented in higher education. She completed her Ph.D. in Social Psychology at the University of Waterloo, and her B.S. in Psychology and Biology at the University of Toronto in Canada.

In her free time, Crystal enjoys drinking tea, reading, traveling, and trying food at local restaurants with her family.
