Developing Students’ AI Literacies

Fall 2024 Short Course

In a new offering from CATE, “Developing Students’ AI Literacies” will offer instructors an in-depth workshop series on how to effectively harness artificial intelligence tools in the classroom. Given the challenges with the broad availability of artificial intelligence, how can instructors manage these new sets of tools in their classrooms? To what extent can we develop students’ disciplinary expertise, while also developing students’ critical use of AI tools?

In this short course, instructors will learn more about an AI literacy framework to develop their own and students’ AI literacies. Participants will meet consecutively for three face-to-face workshops during Fall semester to learn more about the potential and drawbacks of AI tools in the classroom and create activities, resources, and assessment materials for their own AI plans in spring semester. Post-short course, instructors will have the opportunity to receive feedback on their AI classroom plans.

Enroll by Friday, August 30, 2024 to be included as a participant. Those enrolled in the short course will receive calendar invitations for the 3 meetings by September 8.

Given the interactive nature of these sessions and workshop activities, the short course will meet on-campus, face-to-face in the Teaching Excellence Building (924 S Morgan St) for East Campus attendees and a location on West campus for those faculty, for convenience. To encourage participation and accessibility, the three short course meetings will be built around instructor teaching schedules and will conclude by the end of October.
