Equity-Minded Course Design

Designing (or redesigning) a course requires time, deep thinking about changes you want to make, and the intentional act of working from outcomes to activities.

For this course, we will be relying on the course design processes presented in Dee Fink’s Creating Significant Learning Experiences and Isis Artze-Vega, et al.’s Norton Guide to Equity-Minded Teaching. Instructors will be using these frameworks to identify and plan for the kinds of experiences we want students to have in our classrooms. CATE staff will provide feedback at each stage of the course design.

The course design process in Blackboard will guide participants through the following steps:

  1. asking essential questions about the course, your objectives, and your students,
  2. designing equitable and effective assessments and feedback,
  3. scaffolding learning with student engagement activities that build relationships, establish trust, and support student success, and
  4. planning for course assessment.

Enrollment is ongoing. The Blackboard course opens for participants on March 14, 2025.
